In 2010, Boston North Cancer Association’s Board of Directors established the Hope Begins Here Award. This prestigious award is presented annually to an outstanding leader and advocate for cancer treatment, prevention or care in communities north of Boston. The Honoree’s personal and/or professional accomplishments reflect Boston North Cancer Association’s mission and goals. In conjunction with this award, a $5,000 college scholarship is awarded to a college-bound high school senior in honor of the Hope Begins Here Award recipient.
The Hope Begins Here Award is presented annually in the spring at the Hope Begins Here Awards Reception, the signature fundraising event to benefit Boston North Cancer Association. This event also features the presentation of $5,000 college scholarships and a $15,000 medical school scholarship. Scholarships are awarded in honor of David, J. Solimine Sr., and Herbert H. Leventhal, MD and the Hope Begins Here Award Recipient. And in memory of F. John Bargoot, MD; Mary Barbuzzi; and Teri Hall. Additional honorary and memorial scholarships are also awarded.
The format for the Hope Begins Here Awards Reception is an evening cocktail reception with live music, dinner, award and speaking program, and raffles and drawings.
