Our Mission:
Equip and Empower Homeless or Imminently Homeless Young Adults with the Skills and Support They Need to be Safe and Self-Supporting
The Haven Project is a nonprofit north of Boston dedicated specifically to providing age appropriate services to a growing, vulnerable 17-24 year old homeless young adult population. We implement our mission through six essential focus areas: basic needs, employment, housing, education, health, and community engagement.
A Brief HistoryFounded in 2011, The Haven Project was established to address a gap in services to unaccompanied homeless young adults in Lynn and surrounding communities. We provide direct service to more than 300 homeless unaccompanied youth ages 17-24 each year, with referrals to other youth serving organizations for hundreds more who don’t meet intake criteria based on age, homelessness or other factors.
The Haven Project is well known as a key advocate and provider of unique and age-appropriate services to homeless young adults on the North Shore. It continues to grow in the number of clients assisted and programs are expanding to meet the growing and complex needs of the homeless young adult population.
Our Space at 57 Munroe St.
Located in the heart of downtown Lynn, we have had a strong beginning. We are the benefactors of a significant base of in-kind donations, coming from individual donors, churches, and volunteers. The East Coast International Church (ECIC) has generously donated a large program space at 57 Munroe Street, as well as countless in-kind resources over the past 11 years.
All of this community support gives us the freedom to focus our efforts on constantly improving our sustainability and magnifying the impact of cash donations. We also have a strong advisory board of community volunteers who provide guidance, support, and advocacy for the young adults with whom we work.
Our Clients & Our Hours
We initially set a goal of reaching two to three new young people per week, but have been surpassing that number and making contact with anywhere from three to five new individuals weekly. Some have been in contact with us for only a few days or weeks, while others have sustained long-term relationships with the program over the course of several months as we work with them through ongoing issues related to housing, school, employment, and other life circumstances. Our progress with these young people has been significant and life-changing.
Our offices and Lynn center are on the second floor at 57 Munroe Street in downtown Lynn, MA right next to the Lynn Commuter Rail and bus station. Our programming here runs Monday-Friday from 9 AM – 6 PM. We are also available outside of program hours by phone at (781) 913-5738 to answer questions about the program and to offer emergency assistance to young adults.
