Focus on Safety

Would you know what to do in the event of an active shooter? Do you want to empower and protect your employees and be prepared for the unimaginable? Many or us would spend precious minutes trying to figure out what to do and that could be too late to act. Active Shooter events are unpredictable and evolve quickly. Because most of the Active Shooter events happen in less than 10 minutes, before law enforcement can even get on the scene, individuals must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with an active shooter situation. Learn how to survive an active shooter event. Be prepared and have good practices in place for coping with an active shooter.

• Survival Mindset, If you cannot get out safely stay and secure the door. As a last resort attempt to take the shooter down, your chances of survival are much greater if you try to incapacitate him/her, especially as a group.

Learn the 5 steps of A.L.I.V.E.

A. = Assess your situation before you act. *Call 911!

L. = Leave if there is an accessible escape path, attempt to LEAVE the premises.

I. = Impede if evacuation is not possible, find a place to lock yourself in/or hide where the active shooter is less likely to find you. Create time and space.

V. = Violence if leaving or impeding the killer are not possible, take action against them but you must commit to this 100%.

E. = Expose is another opportunity to assess our situation before acting in any way that could cause you harm. When you are CONFIDENT that the danger is over. Expose your position with your HANDS UP and exit the area if possible and make sure to follow the law enforcement instructions.
