The Nov 13th Government Affairs Committee (GAC) will host the highly acclaimed public policy research group Pioneer Institute who will present data regarding the sustainability of the Public Pension System. Research Director Greg Sullivan, the former Inspector General of the Commonwealth (10 Yrs) and State Rep (17 Yrs), (see full Bio here) will give a history of the public pension system and present data from PERAC – the Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission of the Commonwealth. The data presented will be specific to Lynn’s unfunded pension liability – money the city owes to meet its pension obligations. Sullivan will be joined by Pioneer research analyst Rebekah Paxton. The purpose of this event is to examine core data about the current system and observe trends.

Members of the Government Affairs Committee meet once a month to discuss current issues impacting our business community. The Greater Lynn Chamber of Commerce serves the City of Lynn, and towns of Lynnfield, Saugus, Swampscott, and Nahant. The Greater Lynn Chamber of Commerce represents over 100 different professions on Boston’s north shore. The Government Affairs Committee oversees the public affairs events and public policy positions and initiatives and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. As issues relate to Chamber members and the Greater Lynn area’s economy and our quality of life, the Committee tracks the:
- Legislative activity of the executive boards of the respective communities and their respective committees
- Regulatory activity of numerous city and town boards and commissions
- Administrative and enforcement activity of various city and town departments and agencies
- State legislative initiatives.
The Committee is responsible for maintaining a positive and productive relationship with: city and town governments the business/employer/developer community and the communities at large. The Government Affairs Committee members shall be appointed by the Chairman of the Board.
